5 Million Students are Caregivers

When a professor looks out over a classroom of college students, they can look homogenous: students with nothing more than midterms or essays on their minds. This can bely the many struggles that students face every day in their lives away from campus. Among those challenges is the complexity of caregiving. AARP recently partnered with The Chronicle of Higher Education to explore this important issue. They explain, “11 percent of Americans who are caring for older adults are also attending school either full-time or part-time. That means there are approximately 5 million adult student caregivers currently enrolled in trade schools, colleges and universities across the country.”
