Physical Therapy Program Director/Department Chair

 

The School of Health Sciences at Emory & Henry College is seeking an experienced and innovative leader to serve as the next Program Director and Department Chair for its CAPTE accredited Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program. This position opening is due to the upcoming retirement of the program’s founding Director and Chair. This is a full-time, 12-month tenure-track appointment with a preferred start date as soon as possible.

The Program Director will serve as the Chair for the Department of Physical Therapy and will be responsible for providing leadership and vision for the continued growth and success of the DPT program. The Program Director/Chair reports to the Vice President of Health Sciences and serves on the School of Health Sciences Leadership Council.

THE DEPARTMENT:

The Department of Physical Therapy is housed in the School of Health Sciences, which also includes programs in exercise science, occupational therapy, physician assistant studies, and nursing. The School of Health Sciences is located in Marion, Virginia, which is 20 miles north of the main E&H campus in Emory, VA. The 14-acre Health Sciences campus includes two newly renovated academic buildings that are designed to promote inter-professional education and faculty collaboration across the School's academic programs. The educational facilities include multiple classrooms and clinical skills labs, a technology enhanced cadaver lab, several research labs, an applied physiology lab, and a clinical simulation lab with both high fidelity manikins and standardized patient exam rooms. The Health Sciences campus also includes several community outreach programs including a Falls Prevention Center and the Mel Leaman Free Clinic at Emory & Henry. RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain compliance with all CAPTE accreditation standards and related policies and procedures

  • Ensure continuous quality improvement through a culture of ongoing assessment

  • Plan and oversee faculty recruitment, retention, development, and mentoring

  • Evaluate the faculty’s teaching effectiveness, scholarship, service, and other assigned academic duties

  • Oversee student recruitment, admissions, retention, advising, and program progression

  • Prepare, submit and manage the Program’s budget to effectively meet program goals and objectives

  • Promote and foster a collaborative and inter-professional culture in support of the School of Health Sciences mission

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Academic doctoral degree (e.g., PhD, EdD, DHSc, ScD) from an accredited university

  • Eligible for physical therapy licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia

  • At least 6 years of full time higher education experience, with a minimum of 3 years of full-time experience in a CAPTE Accredited DPT Program

  • Meets the qualifications and requirements for the rank of associate professor or professor

  • Effective interpersonal skills including the ability to listen and understand the needs of faculty, staff, students, and community stakeholders as well as highly proficient oral and written communications skills

  • Well-developed skills of team management, coalition building, and operation in collaborative, interdisciplinary environments
