Founding Dean, School of Nursing

Emory & Henry College (E&H) invites applications for the position of Founding Dean of the School of Nursing. Reporting to the Vice President for Health Sciences, the Dean of Nursing will create and foster a collegial and collaborative environment that promotes innovation and excellence in nursing education, clinical practice, and community service. This position will be responsible for daily operations, fiscal administration, and overall management of the School of Nursing. The new Dean will work to craft an innovative and entrepreneurial vision and mission for strategically expanding the nursing program offerings to meet the healthcare and workforce needs of the region; work in close partnership with the healthcare community as well as civic leaders and other external stakeholders to achieve common goals; and work collaboratively to identify and establish fundraising priorities and secure gifts to support the School of Nursing.

 

Emory & Henry currently offers an online RN-BSN program and has obtained approval from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to offer a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. The new School of Nursing will be housed on the 15-acre E&H Health Sciences campus in Marion, Virginia, located just 20 miles north of the Emory campus. The Marion campus is also home to the School of Health Sciences, which includes graduate programs in physical therapy, occupational therapy, physician assistant studies, and clinical mental health counseling.

 

Qualifications: An earned doctorate (PhD, DNP, EdD, DNSc, or similar terminal degree) from a regionally accredited institution; current licensure or license eligibility as a registered nurse in Virginia; previous administrative experience in higher education and nursing education; a distinguished record of excellence in teaching, research, and service commensurate with a tenured appointment at the rank of associate or full professor; previous experience in nursing clinical practice; and a dedication to the mission of the College.

This new plan emphasizes the College’s commitment to connect a traditional liberal arts education to the “world of work”. This focus on the world of work includes initiatives for improving access to quality healthcare in the region through the continued growth of healthcare education programs, including nursing. Located in the Virginia Highlands, the Emory & Henry central campus encompasses 168 pristine acres and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the Virginia Register of Historic Landmarks.
